Community Action House

Community Action House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing individuals and families in the Holland area with food, clothing, social services, and opportunities to build the skills needed for long-term stability and success. When it came time to reimagine their new space, the design goal was clear: to create an environment that felt welcoming, flexible, and full of life—a true reflection of the community it serves.

In collaboration with Lakewood Construction, Megan Murray Interiors led the interior design of a space that balances warmth and functionality. The interior needed to accommodate a wide range of uses—from community gatherings and volunteer coordination to educational programs—while maintaining a sense of comfort and belonging. Flexible, multi-functional areas were designed to be easily reconfigured to meet evolving needs, ensuring that every square foot could serve the organization’s mission.

Working closely with multiple partners, the design team integrated generous furniture donations from MillerKnoll, Steelcase and Custer, and Haworth. The challenge lay in harmonizing these diverse pieces into a cohesive, inviting environment—one that supports both staff and community members alike.

The result is a vibrant, community-centered space that reflects collaboration, compassion, and creativity—a place where people feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive.
